Introduction to Opportunity: 

The Department of Medicine, University of Toronto and the Department of Post-Acute Care & Rehabilitation at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute (Toronto Rehab), University Health Network (UHN) are seeking a full-time academic physiatrist. The successful candidate will be an academic clinician who can demonstrate scholarly achievement and clinical excellence. The successful applicant must be eligible for a Full-time Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto and will be expected to work as outlined in the academic position description of Clinician in Quality and Innovation or Clinician Teacher. Effective start date is June 1, 2021, or shortly thereafter.

We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate clinician who would like to grow with our program, with a strong commitment to rehabilitation of individuals admitted to hospital for acute illness with complex medical and musculoskeletal (MSK) complications and specialized advanced training in interventional medicine, including electromyography, fluoroscopy and ultrasound-guided injections/ablations.

The MSK service at the University Center is part of the Toronto Academic Pain Medicine Institute (TAPMI) and offers a comprehensive inter-professional pain program to those with complex pain. Increased demand for interventional pain medicine is occurring so the ideal candidate will support the current need while ensuring continued growth in collaboration with interventional colleagues.

 

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate must hold an MD degree. The successful candidate must also have, or be eligible for, both Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification and fellowship in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The successful candidate should also have completed advanced training in one or more of the areas of: innovation, quality improvement, health professional or public/patient education

Key Skills Required:

For applicants fitting the Clinician Teacher academic position description, teaching excellence will be assessed by the presence of scholarly contributions to teaching and education as evidenced by pedagogical innovation, curriculum development, experience in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, and teaching awards. For applicants fitting the Clinician in Quality and Innovation academic position description, academic excellence will be measured by demonstrated Creative Professional Activities and/or first author peer reviewed publication relevant to Quality and Innovation.

Salary and facilities offered:

Estimated remuneration includes base support from a provincial alternative funding program plus fee-for-clinical-service income, and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
